[CREDiTS]
Historically of course the Kriegsmarine, but many years later came some DEF-developers and made it a playable set of orders:

       Campaign-concept and texts: GD
System and software for reporting, scoring, statistics: BK
       Graphics: RF

[HiSTORiC BACKGROUND]
The Monsun-Gruppe was a force of German U-Boote that operated in the Pacific and Indian Oceans
during World War II and an organizational part of the 33rd flotilla.

[HiSTORiC KOMMANDANT]
Fregattenkapitaen Wilhelm Dommes portrays the historic "Kommandant der Monsun-Gruppe".

[HiSTORiC MONSUN-BOOTE]

U-847 sailed on 29 July 1943 but was damaged by ice in the Denmark Strait and was diverted to fuel other boats in the North Atlantic before being sunk by aircraft from USS Card on 27 August.
Ammiraglio Cagni sailed in combat configuration in early July 1943 but surrendered after the Italian armistice became effective on 8 September 1943.
U-533 sailed on 6 July 1943 and was sunk by a Bristol Blenheim of 244 Squadron RAF, in the Gulf of Aden on 16 October.
U-183 sailed on 3 July and reached Penang 27 October 1943, and was sunk two years later in the Java Sea by USS Besugo (SS-321).
U-188 sailed on 30 June 1943 and sank the 7,200-ton American Liberty ship Cornelia P. Spencer before reaching Penang on 31 October.
U-532 sailed on 3 July 1943 and sank one Norwegian, one Indian and two British freighters before reaching Penang on 31 October.

U-510 sailed on 3 November 1943 and sank the 7,400-ton British tanker San Alvaro, the 9,200-ton American freighter.
The list of available U-Boote assigned to Monsun-Gruppe is controlled and made available by DAPP - THE DEF APPLICATOR,
it makes sure that only the free and currently unused U-Boote are available for registration and so none of the U-Boote can
be played by two players at the same time.

[WHAT TO EXPECT]
We will be assigned to the Monsun-Gruppe, operating out of Penang, Malaya, and perhaps later from Jakarta,
using long range U-Boote of Typ IX. Other than that, expect A LOT OF FUN !!! Especially with our customized orders
       in a very eye-appealing format.

[WHAT IF I GET BEHIND?]
No need to worry. Start when you can, there is no pressure to keep up with any other participants. You simply run
your campaign patrols at your own pace. If you get behind in the schedule, simply keep staff informed and respond to
PM inquiries. Regardless, complete your patrol as soon as you can. Your next patrol will be whatever your patrol
period then will be. If a Kommandant is inactive for 30 days without contacting BdU, the U-Boot is declared 'MIA'.
If a Kommandant is inactive for 60 days without contacting BdU, the U-Boot is declared 'Lost At Sea', and the
Kommandant is removed from the active roster.

[PATROLS]
All players will participate at their own pace. Individual Patrol Orders for each U-Boot will be posted in the individual
thread in our flotilla-members-area which every Kommandant receives upon registration.

[COMMUNICATiONS]
All communications follow exactly our usual Standard Operation Procedures. Patrol orders may contain more specific
requirements. Encrypted messages are accepted and highly recommended utilizing the Enigma procedures outlined
here at "Doenitz Elite Flotilla", refer to OPTiONAL: Encoding with ENiGMA.

[QUESTIONS?]
Remember that everything is best discussed and solved on DEFTS3.
We do not and we can not offer email-support!

[AVAILABLE TOOLS]
All tools are available as free downloads. A summary of the tools needed for adequate SP/CP-reporting is provided
in 'How to do proper reporting '.

[SiMULATOR-SETUP]
SH3: GWX or GWR or LSH (2015 or later), these are the only two supermods that have Penang as a usable base.
If you know of some other, simply let us know and we work it out.
Make sure you have a multiple install – there is potential for multiplayer operations! ONLY SH3.
       SH4: with UBM update, OM/DW

[OTHER SiMULATORS AVAILABLE?]
'MON' is available for SH3, but can this campaign be played with other simulators as well?

SH4|:haken-klein:, with UBM addon, OM/DW

[REGiSTER A U-BOOT].
You must use DAPP to register your U-Boot and take part.

[SPECIAL INSTRUCTIONS ON HOW TO START ON SH3]
SH3 with mods and addons offers much more than any other game, so here are some specific instructions:
       1. Have both JSGME and S3C installed outside your SH3-game-directory
       2. Use S3F, it helps you to have and manage multiple installations easily
       3. Download and activate "Encrusted Grids Mod by REViSi0N" via JSGME
       4. In S3C for month select 9, for year 1943 and follow [HOWTO] - Adjust The Patrol Start Date
       5. for GWX select 10th Flottille (for LSH select 12th)
       6. then enter your Kommandant name and U-Boot number,
       7. and then enter your assigned grid that you have received in your orders (ex. MG44).
       8. When you start GWX (or LSH), you should now be able to select 1943 and 10 (GWX) or 12th Flottille (LSH) and will start at Penang.

"       Note for GWX users": show
Remember to activate EITHER the "Merged Campaign" mod OR the "Indian Ocean Campaign Files Only" mod via JSGME.
These come with GWX and are already in the MODS folder. Without one of these two, you will not find traffic in the Indian Ocean.

About GWX Indian Ocean Campaign Files Only MOD:
The GWX Team has developed specific campaign files for the 10th Flotilla in the Far East to reduce the load time, since the rest of the world outside the Indian Ocean and the Pacific is empty. If you install this mod, you will not see any ships or aircraft outside of the Far East when starting a mission or campaign. ### IMPORTANT NOTE ### Players electing to use the ―GWX Indian Ocean Campaign Files Only‖ option must enable before starting a patrol from Penang, Jakarta, or any other Asian U-Boot base if the player intends to end the patrol in Asian waters, as this option includes a workaround that allows players to win renown by patrolling their assigned Indian Ocean or Pacific Ocean patrol area. Players should disable this option just before starting a mission where they intend to travel to Europe. The GWX team recommends using the JSGME tool - provided with GWX - for easy installation of this feature. Please read the JSGME documentation for instructions on enabling and disabling software modifications.

[START WHERE/WHEN]
       Ingame Date: 09/1943 - 05/1945

"       The Kommandant will have two starting options for his MON career": show
EITHER from France OR already transferred in Indonesia(Penang/Malaya respectively Jakarta):

1. The Kommandant may start his MON career from Penang, Malay using either GWX or LSH. All patrols will originate from Penang. This is the shorter of the two options. Note: There is an oddity in LSHv6 where 12th Flotilla lists Penang availability as 194307-194312 & 194405-194412. During the early part of first patrol in LSHv6 out of Penang 194307, a message will be received advising relocation to Bordeaux. Subsequently, as soon as the U-Boot is on its way back to Bordeaux, a new message will appear announcing relocation to Penang once again. Actually, if the Kommandant elects to follow these instructions and return to Bordeaux, before he actually arrives there, he will get relocation notice to return to Penang. This is a waste of time, so we advise to ignore and remain at Penang for the duration. LSH3V7-2020 is yet untested in this regard.

2. The Kommandant may elect to start his career out of the respective flotilla in France and subsequent orders will have his U-Boot traversing the South Atlantic rounding the tip of South Africa and on into the Indian Ocean where orders will direct attacks on shipping lanes near Madagascar, and eventually reporting to Penang for resupply and new orders.
GWX uses 10th Flotilla out of Lorient with the following dates:
194202 - 194308  Lorient
194309 - 194410  Penang
194411 - 194505  Jakarta

LSH uses 12th Flotilla out of Bordeaux with the following dates:
194210 - 194306  Bordeaux
194307 - 194312  Penang
194401 - 194404  Bordeaux
194405 - 194412  Penang

For further realism, the Kommandant may elect to end his campaign back in France or Norway, depending on the status of his Flotilla.
This option will provide the Kommandant with a much lengthier career, and will also require the use of SH3 Transformer [S3T].
Note: We are still looking into the possibility of allowing option #2 as this will require additional orders and instructions for setting up S3T, etc. This is yet undecided due to lack of testers.
