Columbus" to radio "their" position to the Brits, so the Brits knew where the German ship Columbus was. The crew on Columbus then faced an insustainable situation that they wanted to avoid: The Brits took the reports sent by the Tuscaloosa-traitors and attempted to bring up the Columbus. The crew was wise enough to scuttle their ship.
