MIT - WELCOME TO THE MITTELMEER

Historically of course the Kriegsmarine, but many years later came some DEF-developers and made it a playable set of orders:

Campaign-concept, texts and software for transfer: AK
System and software for reporting, scoring, statistics: BK

[HiSTORiC BACKGROUND]
The operations of German WWII Kriegsmarine in the Mittelmeer became necessary after it was obvious that the Italians
could not cope with Africa and were of no help in regards to disabling the Britsh Naval base at Malta.

[HiSTORiC KOMMANDANT]
Fregattenkapitaen Fritz Frauenheim portrays the historic F.d.U. Italien/Mittelmeer (Kommandant der 23./29. U-Flottille).

The list of available Mittelmeer-U-Boote assigned is controlled and made available by S3Q_DAPP - THE DEF APPLICATOR, it makes sure
that only the free and currently unused U-Boote are available for registration and so none of them can be played by two
       players at the same time.

[KMPQ]
Operations will be conducted in the Kriegsmarine-Planquadrate (grids): CG, CH, CJ, CN, CO, CK, CP (on S3O-map since 08/2016)
Kommandanten to notice that we have a variety of maps available: Salamis (from GWX) - La Spezia (from S3O) - Salamis (from S3O)
and of course our live-maps on Operation Spinnennetz!

[PHASES OF OPERATiON]
       Patrol WPO dates are:
       194109 - 194110 - 194111 Pre-Phase (23. only)
       194112 - 194201 - 194202 Phase I.1 (23. and 29.)
       194203 - 194204 - 194205 Phase I.2 (while 23 being integrated as U-Boote return from patrol)
194206 - 194207 - 194208 Phase II.1 (from this time, regardless where you started, all U-Boote will be based at La Spezia(Italy)
       194209 - 194210 - 194211 Phase II.2
       194212 - 194301 - 194302 Phase II.3
       194303 - 194304 - 194305 Phase II.4
       194306 - 194307 - 194308 Phase III.1 (moving to Toulon)
...more orders yet to be written on demand until 09/1944 (closure of Toulon on 19440919 and last 3 U-Boote sunk/scuttled)
       as in https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mediterranean_U-Boot_Campaign_(World_War_II)

[WHAT TO EXPECT]
We will be assigned to the 23./29. Flottilla, operating out of bases in the Mittelmeer, using our workhorse: U-Boote of Typ VII.
We will initially operate out of Salamis, in Greece, since the enemy tends to congregate in Eastern Mittelmeer. We will move to
La Spezia, Italy, later on. Once there, Salamis will be available as a secondary emergency port for most of our time in Mittelmeer.
At that time, you can refuel and rearm there, but because it is not you home base, you will not be able to add new equipment.

We will move to La Spezia, Italy, in May 1942 and remain there until August 1943, and then will move to Toulon, France.
In August 1944 we will be ordered to scuttle our U-Boote due to an imminent invasion of southern France. For those of us that
remain, we will transfer to the 33. U-Flottille in Flensburg or whatever is left. Other than that, expect A LOT OF FUN !!! Especially
with our customized orders in a very eye-appealing format.

[WHAT IF I GET BEHIND?]
No need to worry. Start when you can, there is no pressure to keep up with any other participants. You simply run your
campaign patrols at your own pace. If you get behind in the schedule, simply keep staff informed and respond to PM inquiries.
Regardless, complete your patrol as soon as you can. Your next patrol will be whatever your patrol period then will be. If a
Kommandant is inactive for 30 days without contacting BdU, the U-Boot is declared 'MIA'. If a Kommandant is inactive for
60 days without contacting BdU, the U-Boot is declared 'Lost At Sea', and the Kommandant is removed from the active roster.

[PATROLS]
All players will participate at their own pace. Individual Patrol Orders for each U-Boot will be posted in the individual
thread in our flotilla-members-area which every Kommandant receives upon registration.

[COMMUNICATiONS]
All communications follow exactly our usual Standard Operation Procedures. Patrol orders may contain more specific
requirements. Encrypted messages are accepted and highly recommended utilizing the Enigma procedures outlined
here at "Doenitz Elite Flotilla", refer to OPTiONAL: Encoding with ENiGMA.

[GiBRALTAR COMMUNICATiONS]
       • Report when you are at 300 km west of the Gibraltar entrance
       • Report when you are at 300 km east of the Gibraltar exit or later when safe
       • Maintain radio silence within 300 km of Gibraltar except for emergencies

[QUESTIONS?]
Remember that everything is best discussed and solved on DEFTS3.
We do not and we can not offer email-support!

[AVAILABLE TOOLS]
All tools are available as free downloads. A summary of the tools needed for adequate SP/CP-reporting is provided
in 'How to do proper reporting '.

[SiMULATOR-SETUP]
SH3: We recommend GWX, GWR, NYGM or WAC 4.2 (not 5.0, because it crashes(!), but you may try 5.2 though)
anyway make sure you have a multiple install – there is potential for multiplayer operations!

[OTHER SiMULATORS AVAILABLE?]
'MIT' is available for SH3, but can this campaign be played with other simulators as well?
SiMULATOR|Can you play MIT?
AOTD|:haken-klein:
SH2|NO
SH4|:haken-klein:, with UBM addon/OM/DW
SH5|NO
U-BOOT|NO
WOLFPACK|NO

[REGiSTER A U-BOOT].
You must use S3Q_DAPP to register your U-Boot and take part.

[SPECIAL INSTRUCTIONS ON SH3]
SH3 with mods and addons offers much more than any other game, so here are some specific instructions:
       1. Have both JSGME and S3C installed outside your SH3-game-directory
       2. Use S3F, it helps you to have and manage multiple installations easily
       3. Download and activate "Encrusted Grids Mod by REViSi0N" via JSGME

[HOW TO COMMENCE OPERATIONS]
You have got a number of options to transfer to the Mediterranean.

The historically most accurate and at the same time most elegant way is to actually take the effort and transit through the dangerous
straits of Gibraltar. You will start at any other German-controlled port in 11/1941 and sail to your Mediterranean port arriving after
November 30, 1941. Depending on which version of SH3 and/or mod you use, your new Mediterranean port will be either Salamis
       or La Spezia.

New Kommandanten transiting from Germany shall NOT use the English Channel – take the northern route around the north of England
and try to avoid air coverage. At any rate: This is a long trip – plan to travel the majority of it at 1/3 speed to conserve fuel. Calculate
fuel consumption wisely and consider Maximum Distance Chart(s).

Another way is by transfer ingame. Open your career desktop ingame use the telephone to request a transfer. Select 23/29 there and
be transferred to your new base in an instant.

The easiest way to transfer to the Mittelmeer is to begin a new career. If you can, start in the Mittelmeer right away. If - and that
depends on the version and/or mod of SH3 that you are using, you for some reason can not do so, follow these steps:

       1. Run S3C and create a new career with the same data that you submitted using S3Q_DAPP in the registration process.
       2. In S3C for month select 12, for year 1941 and follow [HOWTO] - Adjust The Patrol Start Date
       3. select 2.U-Flottille
       4. enter your Kommandant-name and U-Boot number,
       5. enter your assigned grid that you have received in your orders, i.e. for those going to La Spezia, Italy, the base is in CJ13.
Salamis, Greece, the base is in CK89.
       6. Run the game and start in the Mittelmeer!
