SHAKEDOWN CRUISE; U-181 MODS: GWX + S3C (I think) Realism was default Maximum time Compression was x128 Type: IXd2; 1942 Dates: 01Aug1942 to 18Aug2942 Training Flotilla to 10th Flotilla; Lorient
Our Orders were to report to 10.U-Flotille, Lorient/Frandreich on or before February 15, 1942. This was not possible and assumed an error in the partol orders, since the missions began on August 01, 1942. We were ordered to report to the shipyard indicated and gather our crew and perform an initial shakedown training and delivery of our new U-Boot.
Goal 1) Ensure U-Boot readiness for service. Proceed to Baltic Sea and carry out complete evaluation of the boats performance.
Goal 2) Once satisfied with Goal 1, proceed to the torpedo training Area indicated on the map. This was a long journey. Fire all torpedoes at small target vessels. When all torpedoes are expended, move on to Goal 3.
Goal 3) Once finished training, proceed directly to new base. Do not engage traffic enroute. Upon arrival at new base, report in to the Flottillenchef in my kommandant thread.
The crew of U-181 has arrived Lorient; Below is our report:
01Aug1942; 08:00
VON: U-181 AN: BDU
POSITION: AN 9824 Weather; Clouds clear; Precipitation None; Visibility Moderate. Stores included 24 torpedoes (4-T3, 10-T2 and 10 T-1’s); 110 rounds of 10.5 HE and 8000 rounds of 2cm AP. We cleared position and headed out NNE.
0831 Dove to test seals and scopes; discovered scoped do not focus above 4 kts.
We traveled around the horn and headed east to position. There were numerous friendly ship sightings and multiple opportunities to practice dive and evade. There were also numerous radio messages received during our travel to the training area.
We arrived in the training area 04Aug1942 and was approached by a convoy of British tugboats. We proceeded to periscope depth and dispatched of a few of them.
We then proceeded to training Area #2, which was rich with target tugs, which we dispatched of until we only had 3 torpedoes remaining, which we transferred on the surface traveling slowly. Once reloaded, we headed for Training Area #3 and arrived on 05Aug1942 and dispatched 2 more target tugs with our last 3 torpedoes. In total we dispatched 13 ships for a total of 14,809 tons. We experienced 3 duds, 4 premature explosions and 4 complete misses.
We left Training Area #3 05Aug1942 at 1014; Grid AO94; Clouds clear; Precipitation none; Visibility Unlimited; wind speed 0 mps; Direction 266
We retraced our path until we approached the North Sea and headed north along the western coast of Denmark.
From the 6th to the 17th, we made our way around the northern edge of Great Brittan and past the western side of the Rockall Banks and headed south. We received numerous messages about world events as well as sinking of several U-boots.
On 17Aug1942, mid-afternoon, we turned east into the Bay of Biscay. The weather was sever as was the sea state. We were experiencing severe weather. This continued all the way into port which we accomplished on 18Aug1942.
We tried to park in almost every pen in the place, but never were able to get the mission objective met. We have multiple screen shots to verify our accomplishment and completion, and also the good skill of our crew in parking U-181 in the pens….
The journey was an extremely long one. We have about had enough of each other and most of us want a hot bath, a hot meal and a smokin hot woman for companionship.
I have given the crew 2 day passes in shifts and am keeping 2 squads onboard to help the dock crew refit and resupply. For the most part everything went well.
Anticipate being operational and ready for sea in 1 to 2 weeks.
RESPECTFULLY SUBMITTED Lt.z.s. Heinrich Liebe U-181
Kommandant Liebe, welcome to 10.U-Flottille. Please request orders once your crew and U-Boot are ready to depart. Be advised, we are in a transition period between Flottillenchefs and it may take a little longer than normal for the orders to be issued.

(o.o.c. - Thanks for catching the orders issue date discrepancy. It was overlooked during the preparation stage. However, being that it was a single player mission, it does not create an issue with your career.

Post Script: After chasing this merchant in rain storms, fog and tremendous seas, and approaching the New York harbor, I decided not to wait any longer on better weather and turned and torpedoed the ship. It listed and sank. After making my way south, it was never credited to my kill board. Not sure how this happens or why, but there it is.

Greetings komrad Dr. Apfelglueck: I appreciate your work and feedback. Posted message 070819; 05:27:57 with Kennegruppen ABXRX: Kennegruppen first quarter of 08 is "XRX" on my sheet (posted in the first quarter of 08)? Maybe I'm missing something here. Just let me know and I'll adjust.
Greetings Komrade GE: I got positive ID'd as Liberty Cargo ship by the periscope while heading into and just outside New York Harbor. I'm not aware of how neutral ships respond on the game but suspected they would show up as neutral, but again, I'm not an expert and I'm really not looking for tons. Since I chased for 2+ days, felt it was worth reporting. Hopefully, I will get more with my remaining 19 torpedoes.
STATUS ACKNOWLEDGED. CONTINUE OPERATIONS. GOOD WORK. INCREASED ENEMY AIR PATROLS HAVE BEEN REPORTED IN THE VICINITY OF YOUR INTENDED ROUTE. EXERCISE CAUTION WHEN RUNNING SURFACED DURING DAYLIGHT HOURS. GOOD HUNTING!

I'm having an issue with my DEF-GWX campaign player.
I played for several hours the last 3 weekends and saved the games a number of times. I think I have around 20 saves on the current mission/career. ### too many ### ..............Don't remember having this issue before. I have had many times more gamesaves than this and never had issues. However, I hear you.
Yesterday, I was able to find ships and was able to sink several over a period of days. Each time I saved, then reloaded and resumed operations. The weather of the game finally settled and I performed a torpedo transfer from deck to below. I had one not transfer and don't know where it went. Just figure I'd count it as fell overboard. The rest went well. When done, I saved and exited. I ran the new S3Q and the new QRPC function. Then ran enigma and posted the results (above).
I went into play this afternoon (since its so hot outside) and my game crashes to desktop.
I tried it several times, then began to do some trouble shooting.
Opening S3F first; select my DEF-GWX, then S3C, then start SH3 on S3C screen = game begins to the loading screen then crashes to desktop and back to S3C with a new tip.
Opening my DEF-GWX w/out S3F and it does the same; crashes to desktop.
Opening S3F first; select the non DEF, original GWX (which is on the list as the original I copied); Then S3C; then start SH3 on S3C screen = game begins to the loading screen then crashes to desktop and back to S3C with new tip. ### this clearly says that the savegame data is corrupted ###
Opening S3F first; select the DEF-GWX and start on the S3F screen w/out S3C, and it starts to load scren then crashes to desktop. ### that is logic, S3F and S3C are not the problem ###
Open S3F first; select the non DEF-GWX original and start on the S3F screen w/out S3C and it loads and then STARTS UP AND ALL. My career is there and all my saves. I've not tried to load the saves or anything, but it is all there. ### are you really saving GWX saves in the same folder as 14b saves???????? ###............cannot tell you about 14b, I did not look at that or mention it.
I began to think it was my S3C. When I went back and loaded S3F and then S3C, I noticed that I had "error" on the Rank, U-Boot type and Flotilla. See pics below. ### cannot say, JScones does not respond nor is he interested in fixing anything or helping with such issues ###
I'm obviously wanting to finish this patrol and don't want to loose the work/time. I don't want to 'Rollback" S3C unless someone knows it won't screw up this patrol. ### Read what Rollback does ###..........done.
I'm thinking I'll just go into the vanilla original and finish out the mission. This will not be done through S3C, so I won't have the needed reports printouts, but it appears I'm not going to get them now anyway. ### You should not be able to play a GWX career with 14b setup. How in the world would you do that? ###........the original GWX, not 14b
I was wondering if maybe I chose the original file in S3F and then opened S3C and loaded the game and played and then when I saved it, I screwed it all up? I suppose I could have done that, but cannot figure out if I did that how all my saved games were in the original game file saves? ### Since you are apparently as crazy as to store savegames of both GWX and 14b in one folder, this is clearly the problem ###.........don't know about 14b. did not check or mention it.
I'm also wondering if when I ran the new QRPC, it did something to my files. ### None of my tools (S3F, S3Q and all its modules) changes any savegame files! ###
If any of you have suggestion or any ideas, I'd like to save all this time and effort if there is something I could do to fix things. Thanks=KDB
### EDIT ### I tried to think along your issue and made some comments right to where your statement was. Have no further idea. GD is the better campaign man. But you should really NOT make such crazy things as above!!

Leave of Absence:
I am requesting a LOA until Feb.15, 2020.
I am approaching my last 2 months of work life until retirement. Since I've been barely able to engage, I do not want to just disappear, and hope to be in on occasion, but job will require much until Feb.12.
I will need to be inactive until above requested time. I will try and be in as possible during this time (now till then).

Good morning in the USA. Reporting in. Will be out with family celebrating a members birthday, but will be back. Many things to consider moving forward. Will likely request a new commander and start over, fresh and see what works and what don't as far as gaming details and softwares. Plus, there are many posts to catch up on and I'll likely need to update several.

Welcome back after the longest LOA a Kommandant of this group has ever taken - and returned!

Well, I’m not catching a break. Severe storm last evening. Lightning strike knocked out phone, Xbox, heat pump and internet. Not sure how long I will be out. I’m in town sending this as I have no service at my house w/out internet. Service men may be delayed by flooded roads. I came out another way to get to town and report outages and make repair visit arrangements.
Requesting LOA for 2 weeks.
I’ll try and get back sooner if they are able to restore my fiber optics.

Reporting back in. Phones and internet back up. Heater still not fully operational, but adequate, as spring is approaching and winter leaving.
My mother-in-law was admitted by ambulance to hospital with issues. We had go over to be with her. She is on home-health for the time being. She lives 5 hours away and we do not know when she will need help so schedules will be crap, but in the meantime, I will attempt to re-initiate a kommander and continue work on video.

And another 30++ days have passed with nothing. I believe he is gone, despite he is a retired man for about 2 months now. Since his donation in 08/2019 (Imagine that is 8 fucking months ago!!!) I had been chasing him to talk on DEFTS3 and award him his DEF-email-address that he surely deserved. No avail.
His excuse for being inactive and so totally unresponsive and even deleting his journal here will of course be... me... as always...I am the evil guy here...or Corona? Whatever. It will be a good excuse for 8 months nothing and not keeping touch at least.
I also never understood why he kept cluttering his Kommandant-thread with discussions like how to install a mod, instead of simply coming to TeamSpeak and have a quick solution in a direct conversation - as gatordad asked him to do x amount of times (besides me). Removed that rubbish to make his thread look good in the archive.
Anyway, I will miss him and his creative spelling of his mother language... Here are some his finest which still bring a smile to my face...
- "Bourbon time.............!" - "bourban and spelling lessons" - "When I looked at my name through the bourban, it read 'Heinrich' I was sure....lol" - "Plus, I think I'm supposed to read the instructions first, duh!!!"
and the best being "appoligize" (probably totally "bourboned" or so again...)
Anyway, apparently he refuses to communicate. His last appearance on DEFTS3 was well 8 months ago. The struggle of chasing him is really not worth the fun.
